Road trip yields one win, two losses for men

Playing all three games away, the Missouri Southern men’s soccer team dropped two and won one last week.

On Sept. 23, the Lions went to Portales, N.M. to play Eastern New Mexico State University. The Lions won 1-0 in overtime.

The sole goal came after 96 minutes of play when Neil Stoessel, sophomore midfielder/forward scored off an assist from J.P. West, senior midfielder/forward.

West earned four shots in the match, placing two on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Travis Haight stopped four shots.

On Sept. 25, Southern traveled to Canyon, Texas to play West Texas A&M University. Losing 5-1, the Lions’ only goal was scored by Dushan Gorechan, sophomore forward, in the 50th minute with an assist by Stoessel. This tied the game at 1-1, WTAMU would score four more on the Lions before the game’s end.

Southern traveled to John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark. Sept. 28 for a non-conference match. JBU defeated the Lions 3-1.

The Lions have a short break before returning to action at home Oct. 14. Their record is now 3-9 overall and 1-6 in the Southwest Soccer Conference.
