CAB prepares for new semester

After a month-long break, the Campus Activities Board begins the semester off with a full list of events.

“We already have all of the big events planned for this semester,” said Graham Dickinson, vice president of CAB.

Yet the Board still needed to fill a few holes in the schedule so the Board discussed several ideas for smaller events to take place in between the bigger already scheduled events.

Candice Dickinson, CAB president, brought up whether or not the Board still wanted to have a community involvement event every month.

The members voted to stay involved after having success in last semester’s event.

“The family we adopted for Christmas went over great,” Candice said. “We had several donations and the families got nearly everything on their lists.”

Including an article of clothing for every family member. Candice said she was happy and surprised at the amount of students willing to donate new items to the families.

The Board also discussed the activities that would take place at the upcoming retro dance party.

The dance party will take place at 7 p.m., Feb. 16 in the Connor Ballroom. It will feature a dress contest and a Dance-Dance Revolution contest.

Students are encouraged to dress in their favorite 1970s, 1980s or 1990s attire, but are not required. And even though it’s a dance, it’s not being advertised as a date function.

The Board also talked about how to bring more students to the events.

“Our biggest problem is advertising,” said Tori Maloukis, student activities director.

Then the Board discussed how to advertise for its upcoming events like the Brian Brushwood Bizarre Magic Show at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

CAB has also already scheduled three movie nights for this semester.

The first of which will be on Feb. 9 at the Webb City movie theater and will most likely be featuring “Glory Road.”

There will also be a healthy relationship day on Feb. 13 and 14. There will also be a talent show on March 15 and Spike Night on March 16.

For more information on upcoming events contact Maloukis in the student activities office in Billingsly. CAB is always open for suggestions from students.
