Tennis ranks No. 3 in MIAA

Ranked No. 4 in the Fila North Central Region’s March 24 poll, the Missouri Southern tennis team stands with an 8-6 overall record.

On March 12, the team played the University of Nebraska-Kearney at home. The Lions swept UNK 9-0.

On March 14, the Lions headed to Topeka to play Washburn University. Southern put the Lady Blues away with a score of 5-4.

Southern swept Dordt (Iowa) College 9-0 on March 18 in Bolivar.

Northwest Missouri State University handed Southern a 5-4 loss on March 21 at home. NWMSU is ranked No. 35 in the nation and No. 1 in the MIAA.

Another home competition was held March 23. The Lions knocked off McKendree (Ill.) College, 8-1.

March 25 saw the Lions win on the road against Johnson County (Kan.) Community College, 7-2, and Southern dealt Missouri Western State University an 8-1 loss the next day in Joplin.

The Lions weren’t fooled April 1 by Lincoln University as Southern defeated LU 8-1.

The Lions’ MIAA conference record is 2-2, which places them at No. 3, behind NWMSU and Southwest Baptist University.

The Lions play Saturday against Evangel University in Springfield. EU is 5-3 overall.

Thursday, the Lions travel to Kirksville to play Truman State University in a match rescheduled from April 2.
