Baseball faces losses throughout March

Losing 11 of its last 13 games, the Missouri Southern baseball team dropped to a 6-22 overall record and 1-7 in the MIAA

March 11-17, the Lions hosted the Mutt Miller Classic.

Southern lost to Grand Valley (Mich.) State University 3-1 on March 11.

March 16, the Lions faced double losses – the first to the University of Wisconsin-Plattville, 16-8, and the second to Truman State University, 4-3. The TSU game was non-conference.

The Lions’ sole win in this time came March 17 against Bluefield State (W.Va.) University.

They won that game 16-3.

Southern hosted the MSSU Leroy Wilson Classic March 18-30.

However, Southern’s two games for March 18 and one game for March 20 were canceled.

March 25, the Lions were dealt a pair of losses by the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The first game ended 6-4, and the second ended 5-2.

The University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) handed the Lions a 13-10 loss on March 28.

Pittsburg State University hosted Southern March 26, and the Gorillas swept the double-header 12-7 and 10-1.

Central Missouri State University visited Joplin April 1. The Mules beat Southern 4-2 in game 1 and 18-9 in game 2.

On April 5, PSU came to Joplin. The Lions won game 1 14-10, but game 2 went to the Gorillas 14-6.

Southern hosts Northwest Missouri State University Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m., Saturday’s double-header is at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s game begins at noon.

All games are at Joe Becker Stadium.

Tuesday, the Lions are in action again as they will host Southwest Baptist University. That series begins at 2 p.m. at Joe Becker Stadium.
