Erika Souza finished with a game high 27 points and led Southwest Baptist to an 89-80 win over Central Missouri in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.Behind Souza, sophomore forward Rachel Graves had 17 points and junior forward Courtney Creed tallied 14.Central, who finishes the season at 14-14, was led by senior guard Lindsey Maple. Maple finished with 20 points in her collegiate finale. The bright side to this for Central is that the future looks promising. Kara Fleming, the MIAA Freshman of the Year, finished the game with 17 points and eight assists and freshman forward Jojuana Jones had 17 points and an MIAA Tournament record 21 rebounds. No that is no typographical error. The key stat in the game was field goal percentage. The Jennies shot a pedestrian 38.8% from the field and 60% from the free throw line. Meanwhile, SBU shot an impressive 52.5% from the field, including an unreal 70.4% in the second half, and 90% from the charity stripe. SBU will take on Truman, who upset Emporia State in the opening round, in the semi-final on Saturday.
