The first round of the MIAA Basketball Tournament has given us the first big upset of the postseason as the seventh seed Truman State has eliminated the second seed Emporia State 77-70.Truman, who never trailed in the game, was led by senior guard Katie Fowler’s game high 26 points. Emporia lost despite a 35-30 advantage on the glass. Emporia shot just 29% from beyond the arc. The Lady Hornets were led by senior forward Michelle Stueve with 17 points. Truman, who shot an impressive 46% from the field, will take on the winner of Central Missouri vs. Southwest Baptist in the bottom semi-final.Truman came out at the beginning of the game and played with enough intensity to gain a 9-2 advantage early on and never looked back. Truman was also helped by 14 points from junior forward Georgia Mueller. Other scoring leaders for Emporia were Cassondra Boston with 15 points and Ida Edwards with 14 points. Edwards also led all players with 11 rebounds.
