The Missouri southern Honors Program is a highly selective program that encourages our students to succeed and grow-as scholars, as people and as citizens of the world. The students broaden their educations by required service learning experiences, study abroad experiences and by researching, writing and presenting their senior theses.

This year, 37 outstanding students have been chosen to participate in this program. Eight of them were valedictorians or salutatorians at their high schools. For these multi-talented students, the average ACT score was 28.8 and average high school grade-point average was nearly 4.0. They are musicians, athletes, actors, artists and scholars. Some come from as far away as Washington and Florida, and many are from the local area and decided to stay here to attend Southern and to be part of the Honors Program. You will find them all over campus as their majors vary, and included art and accounting, marketing and mathematics, English and education, and others.

The directors, Dr. Michael Garoutte and Dr. Linda Hand, welcome these students and look forward to working with them as well as with the current Honors Program students, who helped make their first year so wonderful.

Any current MSSU students who are interested in being considered for the program should stop by the Honors Office in Room 118 of Webster Hall to pick up an information packet.
